Urinary
catheters are a silicone tube that is inserted into a patient's bladder via the
urethra; designed to drain urine from the bladder. Catheters are generally used
after surgery or because of a sickness or condition that does not allow one to free
their urine normally. Therefore a device is necessary to strain and gather the
urine. These devices are called catheters. There are different catheters for men
and women and several types of catheters are used based on specific needs and
procedures.
There
are three main types of catheters: sporadic catheters, condom catheters, and
indwelling catheters. They all serve the same purpose of depleting our bodies
of urine. Intermittent catheters are used, as the word indicates, occasionally,
or on a short-term foundation for catheters for urinary incontinence. The
reason to use this catheter is to completely vacate and strain the renal of
urine to prevent any type of urinary infections or renal damage.
