External
catheters, also sometimes known as condom catheters, penis sheaths, or bladder
sheaths, are a significant part of bladder incontinence control for an
incredible number of men. There are many modifications available, and designs,
components, and other information differ by producer, but the basic assumption
of these gadgets continues to be the same. They are a urinary containment device
that slips over the male organ and gathers urine, either in an important pocket,
or in a water flow and drainage bag, which is linked to the containment
program.
The
most common options use smooth, versatile latex, polyvinyl, silicone, or
plastic sheath that slides over the male organ like a condom, and is fitted
with some type of sticky adhesive, which is often "built into" the
sheath itself. Variations on this urinary
incontinence catheter include two-piece sheaths, non-adhesive sheaths
that are properly secured with pieces of a self-applied sticky substance, and
recyclable gadgets that are kept in place over the male organ with ties,
straps, or special briefs.
